Weekly Notes from the Board Momma - 5/14/02
- DAILY SHIPPER POSTS -
I know B/S has been one of the main ships of the season, but it's not the only ship. This board is for ALL fans of ALL ships. There are SO many fans out there of SO many ships and we can't have the board turning into something that favors one over the other. Sure, the fans of B/S and W/T and X/A are all hurting after "Seeing Red." But what about the fans of B/A, W/X, G/J, W/O, X/C, etc., or the ships that have never happened but people are desperately waiting for it to happen? They don't count? They are all out there and while I let it go for this season since it wasn't hurting anyone on the board...after the season ends, so do the shipper posts. The threads exclude anyone who doesn't support the pain and suffering of the topic couple and any who dares to enter the thread without supporting the ship or shares a differing view gets jumped on. That's completely unfair to all those who may be suffering because of other ships that aren't happening or are happening in a sad way.
It's one thing to have an occasional, "I love this ship" post...but it's become a daily thing and occasionally a daily shipper war to see which ship can outdo the other with threads and it's just too exclusive for it to work. We can't have that. So from June 1st on... the daily ship posts will be no more. Until then, I'm not going to stand in the way of pro- or anti- ship threads that are kind and respectful to other fans. If the view of the thread is not your own, stay out of it. Simple as that...don't complain to the board about someone's opposing view "offending" you simply because it isn't your own. Everyone's entitled to respectfully express their view here and everyone else has to accept that or find some place where their feelings won't get hurt by another viewpoint.
I would like to organize an all-inclusive, daily "shipper" support post for anyone who ships any ship (past, present or future) and just wants to talk about their favorite ships without having to defend their views or anything like that, that would be fine. (I'd do it, but I sure as heck would never remember to post every day or however often it's gonna be posted.) If an open-minded fan (meaning you're *not* going to take offense to views about ships that do not match your own) would be interested in helping to arrange this thread...please let me know. :)
- CHARACTER SEXUALITY -
This seems to be everyone's favorite topic of the moment... but guess what? It's a DEAD ONE! There is nothing wrong with someone saying, "I'd like to see this two characters hook up" regardless of gender or species. But, keep discussion of a character's sexuality out of it. If you'd like to see Willow and Xander hook up...good for you. But the debate about the fact that Willow is currently into women does not need to be raised. Share you view... leave the "I know she's gay now, but I don't believe that's going to last" crap out of it. Regardless of what our views may be, a character's sexuality is defined by the show. If the show says a character is gay, then they're gay. If the show defines a character as straight, then they're straight. I don't care what the implications may be or what your own personal preference may be...on this board, that's how we're going to deal with it. It's not an issue that can or will be debated.
And if you don't agree with a person's view that two characters belong together...fine. But don't make it an issue of sexuality. If you don't think two people can be together just because a character is gay or straight...just stay out of the discussion.
- TONIGHT'S EPISODE -
I'm going to PLEAD with everyone to please try to THINK BEFORE POSTING! Last week was not as horrible as it could have been because a lot of people did pay attention to my warnings about the response to the episode. The same rules applied then as have always applied at this board and they're going to continue to apply. PLEASE be kind and respectful when expressing your opinion about tonight's episode. It is going to be a very dark episode as we've figured out already and contains a very questionable topic. I've got no problem with that discussion continuing...but everyone needs to remain civil and respectful. I will NOT stand for flaming or bashing of ANY kind. So think, stay calm and keep other fans and their opposing views in mind when you talk about the episode tonight.
Again... I will be watching the board as carefully as possible. If you spot a problem... don't hesitate to e-mail (aglx@aol.com) me or IM (aglx) me about it! Don't wait until the problem's gone to mention, "Oh yeah, there was this problem, but the board cleaners didn't remove it so I assumed it was okay." You know the rules...if you spot a post breaking them take 20 seconds to drop me a freakin' line! I'd much rather have a billion e-mails reporting the same problematic post than listen to the bitching *after* the post has been bumped off the board. Kay?
- REGULAR LIST UPDATES -
As far as the regular update that should be occurring today...sorry again...but it's not. I know there are a few deserving souls and those people will be added to the list sometime this week. But I've developed some issues with a few others who were poised to be added this week and instead of waste my entire day reviewing posts for the update, I'm going to do it in pieces this week so I can also get some work done on my long-neglected sites. :) If you think you deserve to be added and haven't yet...e-mail me and kindly remind me that you haven't been added. As usual, any whining about not being added up to this point will be an automatic removal of your name from the potential regular list.
