Weekly Notes from the Board Momma - 4/18/02
Okay... lots going on. Lots of important things to know. Pay attention! :)
First, the board website has MOVED. Thanks to Geocities's ever-so-kind decision to end FTP uploading, and my ever-so-forgetful mind that can't remember my frickin' password for that account (you'd think with all the passwords I have, I'd write them down...but that would be the *smart* thing to do, right?), I've moved most of everything over to the angelicsunset.com address (and whatever I didn't is still linked via the old address). In addition to the regular update (which you can see in this message as well), there are also a few other changes.
It can all be found now at: http://www.angelicsunset.com/sboard.html
"Dead Topics" has been updated on the Rules page and I've also added a list of the dead topics to the top of the "Recent FAQ/Overused Topics" page.
Spoilers in the subject lines... I know everyone loves to debate this issue, but guess what? Not up for debate. Yes, this is a spoiler board. Yes, we mostly talk about spoilers, but spoiler warnings *are* required in the subject lines and any telling spoilers in the subject lines will get a post deleted. When new episodes begin again, we will have more than just spoilers to discuss and the difference between spoilers and not needs to be distinguished. Once an episode AIRS in the US on TUESDAY night, content is no longer considered spoilers. If you're getting the episodes (or read the Wildfeed) before Tuesday, you must respect the "spoiler" warnings for the episode. After Tuesday night, when the episode has aired in the US and parts of Canada, it is fair game for discussion without spoiler warnings. The spoiler free and/or people who get the episode after Tuesday are responsible for their own spoiling. An unspoiled person visiting the board on Tuesday night can expect to get spoiled.
Additionally, there are people of various spoiled levels here and in order to maintain a peaceful board (as much as is possible) board cleaners need to be able to scan the board without having the episode ruined for them. Due to the fact that most board cleaners have gone spoiler-free...warnings do need to be given. Putting the freaking word "Spoilers" in your subject line really shouldn't be as painful as people make it out to be.
Banned Posters... I don't usually do this, but since it's a regular occurrence... the posters "data flukey," "Jake Timmons (Take Jimmons)," and "Ricky Tango" are BANNED POSTERS. Do not respond to them, regardless of how good/bad their post may be. Another annoying poster is Sloan Parker (and various other names) with posts to a transcript site. The person does not run the site and ignores requests from the site's owner to STOP the advertising. These messages are often hard to spot, so please, if you see links to illegal material, don't just sit there and do nothing. E-MAIL me if you spot one of their posts on the board and it will be removed. You only get yourself in trouble by responding to bazoars (posting a reply that the above post is a bad post is not considered "responding" in this sense), so don't do it!
Polls... I'm dead serious about this rule. I hate deleting harmless posts, but we *really* cannot afford the bandwidth difficulties caused by so many general polls. It's one thing to promote discussion with a poll-like question... "What is it about so and so that keeps you watching him/her." But questions like, Favorite episodes/characters/ships/seasons/lamp (I know, that last one's a stretch, but....) are just not gonna work on the spoiler board. If the question(s) are not spoiler-related or the poll is not a "getting to know your fellow poster" kind of thing... it belongs on the general board or somewhere else.
OT stuff... we are not yet into Summer posting... the OT stuff REALLY needs to be toned down to a complete minimum. When the season has ended and discussion has died down, we'll begin summer rules and everyone can go OT crazy if they'd like... until then though... keep the OT stuff confined to replies to on topic posts or take it elsewhere.
NOW, for the spoiled folk, the majority aren't very happy with the way this season is going to turn out. I get that... but I (and probably a lot of others) am so *not* going to be able to survive a summer at the board where all we do is rant and complain about the suckage of this season. Not gonna happen. I'm not totally sure how we're going to work out a solution for it, but we are. In the mean time, things will continue as they have been... people who've been posting here before, showing some enjoyment for the show are going to have more privileges as far as ranting is concerned. People who come out of the blue (or possibly lurkdom) to just go on about how much the show sucks now... forgetaboutit. Also, as always, if you're not a FAN of this show, you are not welcome at the board. If at any point you decide to give up your Buffy watching and intend to use the board for ranting space on how much the show *used* to be good and sucks now... don't even think about it. Not going to be tolerated.
Regarding deletion of posts and the reasons behind it... The second you start jumping to conclusions and throwing insulting remarks at me or the board cleaners because a post was deleted... you throw out all arguing rights you may have on the issue. I make no secret about deleting posts and when someone wants to know why a post is deleted... I'm always upfront with the answer if I have one. HOWEVER, it's a real pet peeve of mine when people just *assume* they know something about why I do something... that's one of the quickest ways to get on my bad side and even if your post *isn't* deserving of deletion, if you piss me off, I'll delete whatever I feel like. So for goodness sakes, ASK (and ask by e-mail if you really want an answer) first before jumping to conclusions. In the end, this is MY board and with MY rules. This is the Internet, there is no "right to free speech" here. You have as much right to free speech as I have to deny you that free speech. If you see it other ways on other boards... yay for you. My board is *not* other boards and I'm quite happy with that fact. There's a reason why this board is so popular and why it's lasted for 4 years. I'm not about to change that to allow people to be rude jerks.
And that...ladies and gents is all for now. Sorry for the length and such...this has been building up for a few weeks since I haven't done an update in a while! :)
